BEST CUSTARD TARTS ANYWHERE!

Okay, okay...I have to admit it...I have never had Portugese custard tarts until about a month ago. I kept hearing about how good they are, but I didn't really think they could be anything that spectacular. I mean...how good could a custard tart be, right?

Well, I live right up the street from Brazil Bakery and Pastry Ltd, a little Brazilian bakery that's always very busy. I went in and had a coffee and a couple of tarts one afternoon, and to be quite honest, that was it! I'm hooked!!

These little tarts are so good that they are addictive. The pastry is very similar to puff pastry but much crisper and flakier. And the custard is so delicate that its barely set. They are just too damn good!

The breads that I have tried there have also been excellent. Of special note is the corn bread. It is crunchy on the outside with a very dense, cake-like center. Another "must try" if I do say so myself.

Anyway, I just had to plug this place; everything I have had from this little bakery is outstanding!

Check them out!! http://brazilbakery.ca/

I've never had a Malsada. What are they?

You need to make sure the pasteries and baked goods are fresh...especially the cakes. Once we purchased a cake for a friend's birthday and we had to throw it out.. quite embarassing.

Well...personally, I have always been happy with what I have purchased there. But anyone can have an off day I suppose?
